SSP Daily Tables for 2026-27
The same weekly SSP rate applies to all employees. However, the amount you must actually pay an employee for each day they’re off work due to illness (the daily rate) depends on the number of ‘qualifying days’ (QDs) they work each week.
Notes:
In BrightPay Cloud, Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) calculations are dependent on the employee's calendar setup. A full SSP week runs from Sunday to Saturday, and adjustments may be needed if the employee's calendar does not match this setup. Override options are available by holding the Shift key and using the spanner icon next to the SSP entry if you wish to adjust calculations.
Ensure working days are correctly entered in the employee's profile to avoid calculation errors.
BrightPay will not automatically adjust the number of hours or periodic pay when SSP is applied to the payslip. Any adjustment will have to be done manually by reducing the number of hours or working out the employee's daily rate and then adjusting the periodic pay by the number of days the employee was on sick leave.
BrightPay needs 8 weeks of payroll data in order to assess employees eligibility for SSP. This means that new starters or TUPE'd employees might not have sufficient payroll data to assess their eligibility. You can check on the HMRC website for an employee's eligibility in this scenario.
A leave date entered into the software can affect the daily rate of the SSP paid. For example, if an employee usually works 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) and they leave on the Wednesday, this would be classed as a 3 days week in the software because Thursday and Friday of that week are now non-working days as they have left.
